Good morning and Happy New Year New Street Family,
This morning Pastor Dee-Ann teaches us about Epiphany which is actually celebrated on January 6th. It was twelve days of traveling after the birth of Jesus that the Magi finally reached Jesus in Bethlehem to pay homage. It is on this day of their arrival as Gentiles that signifies God's gift of Christ, the Good News, not only revealed to the three Kings, but the whole world.
“When they saw the star, they were filled with joy. They entered the house and saw the child with Mary, his mother. Falling to their knees, they honored him. They opened their treasure chest and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:10-11(CEB)
Glorious God, grant us the courage to follow Christ’s natal star, wherever your light would lead us; grant us the wisdom to follow the kings of old, as they left the safety of their homes to find the infant Jesus; grant us the purity of heart, to forsake the glitter of things that do not endure, and embrace the brightness of your glory. Amen.
We light the Christ Candle as a reminder that the wise men followed Jesus’ natal star. He is Emmanuel, God with us. He is the Light of the World.
Let us go forth following the kings of old in search of God’s Son. We go with the promise of new life in Christ. Let us follow the magi in search of meaning and purpose. We go with the promise of new life in Christ. Amen.
